IZW Wrestling Roundup
The New Year is right around the corner and it marks the changing of the guard in IZW. Coming off of the heels of Chaotic Christmas on GFL.tv, IZW will look very different in 2012, beginning with its next show on January 7. Looking back at all of the results and ramifications of Chaotic Christmas, one has to wonder what kinds of changes were set in motion at the iPPV.
The title picture is murky at best. “The Real Deal” Aaron Neil defeated his longtime rival and former IZW World Heavyweight Champion, Jermaine Johnson in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match to claim the championship that Neil has been pursuing for over 12 months. For Neil, coming off of one of the biggest victories of his career and becoming IZW’s only 5-time World Heavyweight Champion, it doesn’t seem like things could get much better for the new Champ. But this is IZW where things can change in an instant. How long will Neil’s reign last before he is dragged down by the pack of wolves that permeates the IZW locker room? Anyone who is familiar with the former Champ Johnson knows he always has a backup plan and don’t be surprised if he executes his plan sooner than later. Johnson clawed tooth and nail for over a year to remain the champion and he’s not going to give up his belt that easy.
In other news, Brent Albright quit IZW at Chaotic Christmas. After cheap-shotting Johnny Z in the backstage area before their scheduled No Holds Barred/No DQ Match and then coming out like a conquering hero in front of the Impact Arena faithful, Albright was given a little of his own medicine as Double D stepped up to the plate and defeated the former NWA World Champion in a match that saw Double D overcome almost insurmountable odds. Albright couldn’t stand his first singles defeat in IZW and had a meltdown right in the middle of the ring after the match. With the victory Double D not only defeated a former WWE and ROH Superstar, but he ran “The Shooter” out of the company and out of the business. This bout was definitely a career-defining match for Double D.
With Johnson’s loss and Albright’s departure from IZW, Impact Inc. is on shaky ground. The foundation has been cracking for weeks and at Chaotic Christmas, there was a seismic shift in the once dominant stable. Randy Price’s and Michael Barry’s post-match scuffle only added fuel to the fire for the onetime faction that looked to be as tight as the Four Horseman. With Price seeming to break away from the group and assert himself as an individual in IZW, nobody can predict what is going to happen with Johnson and Barry, who as of this writing, are still in Impact Inc., along with IZW Commissioner Jeff Wolfenbarger. Will Wolfenbarger be able to rally the troops on January 7 and put the pieces back together? Will he be able to reach out and make backroom deals with other members of IZW to retool and reload Impact Inc.? Or have we seen the end of the group that’s run roughshod over the Oklahoma territory?
Tune in to GFL.tv Saturday January 7 to watch and find out all of these and other questions as Impact Zone Wrestling returns with its weekly FREE pro wrestling series leading up to its next iPPV Violent Valentine on February 11.
